Reflections from down under with The Knowledge Exchange and so much more...
Being part of the Back to Roots tribe means we hold each other accountable. We attempt to embody what we preach, not take ourselves too seriously and be an example and inspiration for the people we are encouraging to make positive health behaviour changes.
We had a perfect opportunity to explore and add some variability of new life experiences recently with a trip to Australia.
Our CPD courses out there were excellent, a very engaged group of exercise professionals creatively applying exercise rehabilitation and discussing implementation of research was a joy to meet. Some great contacts and friendships were made and I’ll cherish my opportunity to teach there for a long time and the wonderful people I’ve met along the way.
It was however the moments in between the courses, as we explored the stunning coastal line between Sydney and Melbourne that really provided moments of awe and re-igniting smoking ambers about the thrills of living freely.
From playing around in the waves at sunset on a golden beach with not another soul in sight for miles in either direction, seeing how long one could balance single legged in the silky sand, which crumbled all over your feet making a forever changing balance challenge whilst being overwhelmed by the sound of the waves, and the silence surrounding everything.
To feeding Kangaroos, seeing vast landscapes that the brain could barely comprehend the size of, some with pure Jurassic park like forestry to sandstone laden desert landscapes which were a complete playground of movement challenges and variability. There was so much to explore and play with, you simply wanted to spend months in each spot where you spent a day.
Best of all was the non linear nature of the journey, the improvisation, the loose idea of destinations that were changed on the spot when something else interesting and unexpected showed up around the corner. The freedom to make it up as you went along, no time pressures of being anywhere for any time, thus a tree climb could take as long as it felt good. Feeling a little nervous but blown away by excitement and anticipation about simply not really knowing what was going to happen. Even the joy of driving! In stunning scenery and actually having time to listen to music, really listen and remind yourself of how you used to love music and listen to albums all day long.
It’s nice to remind yourself of some of the incredible reasons to really live a life that gives you great fulfilment and meaning. To keep playing, keep exploring, keep finding things out about life on earth and why it’s important to continually remind ourselves to have gratitude yet to keep being curious and inspired.
We can’t thank the boys from the Knowledge Exchange enough for all they have done in making this adventure possible (Below). You can stay up to date with all the amazing courses and info these guys put out HERE.
Luke and Brendan even put a small video together to show what we got up to during our courses and we shot a podcast you can check out in the footnotes at the bottom of the article. Check out the video overview below.
The trip also enabled us to meet up with our friends from The Pheonix Movement in Brisbane where we trained and consolidated an already great working relationship. Stay tuned for more in the future there!
It already seems like such a long time ago, but memories have been well stored. I just must remind myself continually to keep making new ones.
Until next year,
Luke & Paul
